Palm Sunday…a short, sweet reminder!

1 Apr

Hello Wrapsody friends!

We hope you all had a wonderful weekend! Easter is only a week away, and that means that today is Palm Sunday. Often overlooked, Palm Sunday is the Sunday before Easter and marks Holy Week, the week of events leading up to Christ’s death. More specifically, Palm Sunday marks Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem to celebrate Passover. The gospels record his arrival into the city on a donkey while crowds spread their cloaks and branches (hence, Palm Sunday) on the street and shouted, “Hosanna to the Son of David!”

While Easter and its many traditions are one of our most beloved holidays, our consumerist culture can sometimes blind us to the true meaning behind the holiday. Easter marks Christ’s burial and resurrection, and if that day were not overflowing with Easter egg hunts, Easter bunnies and chocolate Cadbury eggs, it would be okay because we have a Savior! That, in and of itself, is the ultimate celebration. (But I’ll still take a Cadbury egg.)

Simply put, Palm Sunday is an occasion to reflect on the final week of Jesus’ life. It’s a time for Christians to prepare their hearts to reflect on the pain he suffered in his death, but also the joy of his resurrection! Take today and this week to reflect on the beauty of the sacrifice made for you and me. He is risen!
